佛法僧科鸟类。因翅膀上独特的淡蓝色或白色、硬币形状的斑点而得名。栖息于树枝高处，姿态直立，突然飞出捕食昆虫。分布于澳大利亚、韩国、日本、印度等地。为夏候鸟，在澳大利亚繁殖期为9月至次年4月，冬季迁徙至新几内亚及附近岛屿。主要栖息于林缘及开阔林地。
形态特征
体长可达30厘米。整体羽色为深棕色，背部和翼覆羽带有明显的蓝绿色金属光泽。腹部和尾下覆羽颜色较浅，喉部和尾下覆羽则闪烁着明亮的蓝色光泽，飞羽为较深的蓝色。喙部短而宽，成熟个体喙部呈橙红色，尖端为黑色。翅膀外侧具有浅蓝色斑块，飞行时格外醒目。雌鸟羽色比雄鸟稍显暗淡，幼鸟整体更为暗淡，喉部无蓝色斑块，喙部和脚部均为棕色。
如何辨识
野外辨识最具特征性的是翅膀上银白色的圆斑，飞行时十分显眼。喉部和尾下覆羽的亮蓝色是另一个重要识别特征。喙部橙红色且嘴形短宽也较为独特。它们常栖息在高处树枝上，呈现直立的姿态，这也有助于与其他鸟类区分。
分布与栖息地
分布范围从澳大利亚向西延伸至日本和印度，向西可达印度次大陆。存在迁徙行为，部分亚种如分布在澳大利亚的亚种为候鸟，在澳大利亚北部和东部繁殖期为九月至次年四月，冬季迁往新几内亚及附近岛屿。它们偏好有树洞的开阔林地环境。
习性与生态
主要食物为昆虫。习惯单独活动，常栖息在林中高处光秃的树枝上，从那里突然飞出捕食飞虫，得手后迅速飞回原栖息点。这种捕食行为会在同一地点反复进行。繁殖期会在树洞中筑巢。
生存状况
主要威胁因素是栖息地的丧失，特别是具有树洞的成熟树木的减少，这影响了它们的繁殖条件。
文化
