简介
小型鸣禽，热带地区留鸟，栖息于灌丛和森林。繁殖期在季风雨后，雄鸟会腾空飞起，蓬松全身羽毛（尤其腰部淡绿色），螺旋式滑翔回原处，落地时展开尾羽、翅膀下垂。
形态特征
体型小巧，喙尖且略有缺刻，喙脊笔直。雌雄羽色差异明显：雄鸟繁殖季具黑色顶冠和背部，翅和尾终年黑色，下体黄色，翅上两条白色横斑在繁殖羽中尤为醒目；雌鸟翅呈绿色，尾橄榄色，下体同样为黄色。不同地区亚种的羽色存在显著差异。
如何辨识
野外辨识要点包括响亮的口哨声、鲜明的黄色下体以及翅上的白色横斑。雄鸟繁殖羽的黑色覆盖范围变化较大，易与马氏辉鹎混淆，但后者尾羽端部始终为白色，可资区别。
分布与栖息地
分布于热带南亚次大陆至东南亚广大地区，包括印度、斯里兰卡、喜马拉雅山脉、中国西南部、东南亚及印尼诸岛。栖息于灌丛、开阔森林及林缘地带，为留鸟无明显迁徙行为。
习性与生态
常结小群在树上活动，于枝叶间啄取昆虫为食，也会加入混合鸟群。鸣声为啁啾声、口哨声和颤音的混合，有时会模仿卷尾的叫声。繁殖期在季风雨后开始，筑巢于树叉处，产2-4枚绿白色卵，雌雄共同孵化约14天。
生存状况
分布范围广，种群数量稳定，在大部分地区较为常见，目前无重大保护危机。
