Introduction

A passerine bird of the crow family, Corvidae. It is unusual among members of its genus for being black and white, lacking the blue plumage typical of other Urocissa magpies. Two subspecies are recognized.

Black and white plumage, lacking the blue coloration found in related species.

Distribution & Habitat

Two subspecies: nominate whiteheadi is found in Hainan; xanthomelana is found in southern China, northern Vietnam, and north and central Laos.
