  breeds inland central Alberta eastward to southwestern Manitoba (south-central Canada), southward to northeastern California and northern Nebraska; winters coastally northern California to central Chile

  breeds coastal Newfoundland (southeastern Canada) to Florida southward to Tamaulipas (northeastern Mexico), also Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and scattered islands elsewhere in Caribbean including Los Roques (north of Venezuela); winters coastally from New Jersey through Caribbean southward to northeastern Brazil
