Introduction

A pigeon species in the genus Treron. Found from Nepal, northeast India, and Bangladesh to southwest China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Was added to the IUCN Red List in 2014. Many authorities consider this a separate species following its split from the pompadour green pigeon complex.

Distribution & Habitat

Range extends from Nepal, northeast India, and Bangladesh through southwest China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Inhabits forested areas where it forages in trees.

Behavior & Ecology

Occurs singly or in small groups. Flight is fast and direct, characterized by regular wing beats with occasional sharp flicks typical of pigeons. Diet consists of seeds and fruits from various plant species. Breeding involves building a stick nest in trees, where the female lays two white eggs.

Conservation

Added to the IUCN Red List in 2014 following its taxonomic split from the pompadour green pigeon complex.
