Introduction

A passerine bird in the Old World babbler family Timaliidae. It inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests across South and Southeast Asia.

Distribution & Habitat

Found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. Twelve subspecies are recognized with ranges including: central and east Himalayas; northeast India, north Myanmar, and southwest China; east and south Assam, east Bangladesh, south and southeast Myanmar, and northwest and west Thailand; east Myanmar, north Thailand, and south China to north and central Indochina; south Indochina; north and central Malay Peninsula; south Malay Peninsula; Sumatra and Lingga Island; north Natuna Islands; Tioman Island; montane west Borneo; and montane north Borneo.
