Introduction

Species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. Endemic to Taiwan. Formerly included the buffy laughingthrush of mainland China as a subspecies. Following molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, it was moved from genus Garrulax to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus.

Identification

Differs from the buffy laughingthrush in having darker grey underparts, less contrasting rufous wings, narrower white tips to the tail, and lacking distinct black lores.
