Introduction
A barbet in the family Megalaimidae native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. It inhabits shrubland and forest up to an altitude of 1,200 m (3,900 ft). Listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List due to its large range.
Description
Measures 16–17 cm (6.3–6.7 in) in length and weighs 26.3–37 g (0.93–1.31 oz). Features olive-green plumage, a blue throat and nape, and a black beak. Distinctive markings include a large black streak between the eyes and red spots encircled by black below the eyes.
Distribution & Habitat
Native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and Bangka Island. Three subspecies are recognized: P. d. duvaucelii in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and Bangka Island; P. d. gigantorhinus on Nias Island; and P. d. tanamassae in the Batu Islands. Inhabits shrubland and forest up to 1,200 m (3,900 ft).
Conservation
Listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List because of its large range.
