breeds upland low Arctic tundra of western Alaska, in north-central Seward Peninsula and northern Yukon Delta; winters from Micronesia and Fiji eastward through Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and Kaui (rarer on other main Hawaiian Islands), and throughout Polynesia
