Introduction

A species in the family Muscicapidae native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Description

Males of the subspecies N. m. signata tend to have a greyer belly and underside than the nominate subspecies.

Distribution & Habitat

Found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam. The nominate subspecies occurs in the central and western Himalayas from Uttarakhand to Sikkim and West Bengal. Subspecies N. m. signata is found in Northeast India, Myanmar, southern China, north Thailand, and continental Southeast Asia, with non-breeding individuals also present in coastal Guangdong.
