Introduction

Rail species (Lewinia striata) with a taxonomic history traditionally placing it in Gallirallus genus. Genetic studies now recognize its placement in the Lewinia genus, accepted by both IUCN and IOC. Species ranges across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Breeding activity documented in July in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas near Dehradun.

Occurs across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Breeding confirmed in the Himalayan foothill region of Dehradun in northern India during July.
