Introduction

A bird species in the family Leiothrichidae. Found in central China, far northern India, and Myanmar. Inhabits temperate forests. Formerly classified in the genus Garrulax, it was reassigned to the genus Ianthocincla following a molecular phylogenetic study in 2018. Known for its sweet, melodious, and bold vocalizations.

Behavior & Ecology

Breeding involves the female laying 1-3 blue eggs, which are incubated by both parents for a period of 2 weeks. Recognized for its powerful and melodious song.
