Introduction

A species in the bush warbler family Cettiidae, formerly classified within the 'Old World warbler' assemblage. Found in central and southern China, and the northern extremes of Myanmar and Vietnam. Its range extends through Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam, with possible occurrence in northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh. Thirteen subspecies are currently recognized, with the last eight (H. f. sepiarius, H. f. flaviventris, H. f. vulcanius, H. f. kolichisi, H. f. everetti, H. f. banksi, H. f. oreophilus, and H. f. palawanus) sometimes considered a separate species, the Sunda bush warbler (Horornis vulcanius). Formally described in 1845 by English zoologist Edward Blyth based on a specimen collected in Nepal.

Distribution & Habitat

Range spans central and southern China through the Himalayan region to Southeast Asia and the Greater and Lesser Sunda Islands. Countries of occurrence include Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. May also occur in northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh.
