Distribution & Habitat
This pigeon inhabits temperate forests across Southeast Asia, with its range extending through Nepal, Bhutan, northern India, southern Tibet, southern China, northern Laos, northern to mid Myanmar, northern Thailand, and Taiwan. While the global population remains unknown, the Taiwan population is estimated at 10,000 to 100,000 breeding pairs.
Behavior & Ecology
Nesting occurs in forested habitats where females typically lay a single white egg per clutch, though double-egg clutches have been documented. The incubation period lasts approximately 21 to 23 days. Young pigeons fledge and leave the nest around 28 days after hatching.
