Introduction

A songbird in the bulbul family Pycnonotidae and the only species in the genus Alcurus. It inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests across a range extending from the eastern Himalayas to northern Vietnam.

Distribution & Habitat

Found from the eastern Himalayas to northern Vietnam. Three subspecies are recognized: A. s. striatus occurs in the eastern Himalayas, north-eastern India, southern China, and western Myanmar; A. s. arctus is restricted to the Mishmi Hills in north-eastern India; and A. s. paulus ranges across eastern Myanmar, southern China, and northern Indochina.
