Species in the family Leiothrichidae. Found in Northeast India and adjacent southwest China and Myanmar. Formerly regarded as a subspecies of the chestnut-crowned laughingthrush, T. erythrocephalum.

Inhabits Northeast India and adjacent regions of southwest China and Myanmar.
