Introduction

A species of Old World babbler family (Timaliidae) endemic to the eastern Himalayas and adjacent regions. Its range extends across Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Nepal. Inhabits subtropical and tropical moist lowland and montane forests. Occupies the understorey of broadleaf evergreen forest and bamboo at elevations of 900–1,950 meters, with westward-facing slopes preferred in Bhutan. Descends to lower elevations during winter. Occurs in small parties and feeds primarily on insects, particularly woodlice and boring beetles. Classified as becoming rare due to habitat loss.

Found throughout the Indian subcontinent and adjacent parts of Southeast Asia, including Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Nepal.
