Introduction
A finch species in the family Fringillidae endemic to the mountains of Taiwan. Genetic analysis indicates it diverged from the mainland grey-headed bullfinch (P. erythaca) during the mid-Pleistocene. Previously classified as a subspecies of the grey-headed bullfinch, a 2020 study established it as a distinct species, and this classification has been accepted by the International Ornithological Congress.
Distribution & Habitat
Restricted to the mountainous regions of Taiwan. Endemic to the island.
