Introduction

A passerine songbird in the bulbul family (Pycnonotidae). Inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests of south-eastern Asia. The specific name 'flavescent' refers to the yellowish coloration of its plumage. Known alternatively as Blyth's bulbul, flavescent green bulbul, and round-tailed green bulbul. Three subspecies are recognized, differing in their geographic distributions across the region.

Distribution & Habitat

Found across south-eastern Asia. The nominate subspecies (P. f. flavescens) occurs in north-eastern India, north-eastern Bangladesh, and western Myanmar. Subspecies P. f. vividus inhabits north-eastern Myanmar, southern China, Thailand, and northern Indochina. Subspecies P. f. sordidus is restricted to southern Indochina. Inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
