Whistler's Warbler

Phylloscopus whistleri

韦氏鹟莺

IUCN: Least Concern Found in China

Introduction

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest areas across the Indian subcontinent, ranging from the Himalayas to Myanmar. Previously placed in the genus Seicercus, molecular phylogenetic research in 2018 prompted taxonomic revision, merging Seicercus into Phylloscopus, which has nomenclatural priority under ICZN rules.

Distribution & Habitat

Occurs across the Indian subcontinent from the Himalayas eastward to Myanmar. Inhabits subtropical and tropical moist montane forests, as well as heavily degraded former forest areas.

Culture

The common name honors English ornithologist Hugh Whistler (1889-1943), reflecting the convention of commemorating ornithologists in species nomenclature.
