Introduction

Old World warbler (family Phylloscopidae). Occurs in central and southern Asia, historically ranging across Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. Currently restricted to northwestern India and Pakistan. Inhabits boreal and temperate forests.

Distribution & Habitat

Contemporary breeding range confined to northwestern India and Pakistan. Formerly occurred more broadly across central Asia including Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. Occupies boreal and temperate forest habitats.

Culture

Described by ornithologist William Edwin Brooks, father of Canadian bird illustrator Allan Brooks.
