Introduction

A species of leaf warbler in the family Phylloscopidae. Found in Asia from the eastern Himalayas to south-eastern China and southern Vietnam. Inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Formerly classified in the family Sylviidae. The taxonomic history involves complex reclassifications, with the species formerly placed in the genus Seicercus before being merged into Phylloscopus in 2018 following a molecular phylogenetic study.

Distribution & Habitat

Three subspecies recognized across the range: P. i. zosterops occurs from the east Himalayas to south China, north Laos and central Vietnam; P. i. intermedius is found in central and southeast China; P. i. ocularis occurs in south Vietnam. The species inhabits moist forest environments from lowland to montane elevations within its broad Asian range.
