Swinhoe's Minivet
Pericrocotus cantonensis
小灰山椒鸟
Distribution & Habitat
This species breeds across central and eastern China, from southern Gansu and Shaanxi east to Fujian and Guangdong, and south to Guangxi. It migrates southward to spend the winter months in Southeast Asia, including northern Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and southern China). Its breeding habitat consists of temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, as well as subtropical and tropical moist forests at low and mid elevations. During migration and winter, it occupies similar forest types, including both lowland and montane evergreen and deciduous forests. It typically occurs at elevations between 200 and 1,500 meters above sea level, though some populations may be found higher. The species shows a preference for forested areas with dense canopy cover and is often found in the upper and middle forest layers.
