Introduction

A bird species in the Pittidae family. Inhabits subtropical and tropical seasonal forests as well as subtropical and tropical moist montane forests across Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Five subspecies are recognized, showing geographic variation in their distribution across Southeast Asia.

Distribution & Habitat

Range extends through Cambodia, southern China, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Inhabits subtropical and tropical seasonal forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Subspecies show geographic structuring: tonkinensis in south China and north Vietnam, douglasi on Hainan Island, petersi in central Laos and north central Vietnam, soror in south Laos and central-south Vietnam, and flynnstonei in east Thailand and south Cambodia.
