Species in the family Paradoxornithidae. Formerly classified in the Timaliidae genus Alcippe and in Sylviidae. Previously treated as a subspecies of F. cinereiceps (grey-hooded fulvetta). Inhabits temperate forest habitats. Range encompasses Northeast India, Myanmar, and Yunnan. IUCN Red List assessment first conducted in 2008, classified as Species of Least Concern.
