Godlewski's Bunting

Emberiza godlewskii

灰眉岩鹀

IUCN: Least Concern Found in China

Description

This medium-sized bunting displays a distinctive grey head, neck, and breast, accentuated by a brown or black eye stripe, mustache marking, and crown. The upperparts feature a mottled orange and black pattern on the back, while the underparts and rump show an orange to buff wash. The tail is black and orange above with white underparts, distinctive for its notched tip. The conical beak resembles that of a sparrow, being black on the upper mandible and pale below. The legs and feet are light pink in coloration. The combination of grey head patterning and orange-tinged underparts provides good identification cues in its natural habitat.

Distribution & Habitat

This species occupies a broad range across Central and East Asia, being found in China, Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, and Russia. Its preferred habitat consists of temperate shrubland environments, where it inhabits the shrubby and brushy areas typical of this biome. The species appears to be adapted to the rocky, scrub-covered slopes and montane shrubland found throughout its extensive geographic range.
