Description

A small, cryptically plumaged bird with a distinctive flecked or striped feather pattern. The plumage combines black, brown, white, and red hues that provide excellent camouflage against tree bark, making this unobtrusive bird challenging to spot in its forest habitat.

Distribution & Habitat

Occurs across the northern Indian subcontinent, with a primary distribution throughout the Himalayan region. Its range extends through Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Inhabits boreal and temperate forest environments, showing a preference for mature woodland areas.
