Blyth's Rosefinch

Carpodacus grandis

喜山红腰朱雀

IUCN: Not Evaluated Found in China

Introduction

Fringillidae species. Montane regions of Central and South Asia, ranging from northern Afghanistan through the western Himalayas. Inhabits high-altitude forest edges, shrubland zones, and transitional areas between forest and alpine scrub. Some authorities treat this species as conspecific with the red-mantled rosefinch (Carpodacus rhodochlamys), indicating close evolutionary relationships between these high-altitude Carpodacus populations.

Distribution & Habitat

This species occupies a narrow geographic band from northern Afghanistan eastward through the western Himalayas. Its preferred habitats include temperate forest environments and boreal shrubland, particularly in montane regions. The species appears to be year-round resident within this range, though specific altitudinal movements in response to seasonal conditions likely occur. The habitat preferences distinguish it from some related rosefinches that occupy different ecological niches within the broader Himalayan region.
